The most important thing of all when lure fishing for pike is a strong wire trace. These can be
up to 100lb breaking strain wire, as they take a lot of punishment if you are casting 4oz jerk
baits. All wire traces should be at least 10 inches long.

A hook hone (sharpener) is also a must to keep all your hooks as sharp as possible. This is
basically a fine file, they are made of metal or ceramic. If you have caught a few fish or
clipped the bottom a couple of times it soon takes the point of your hooks.

Long nose plies are ideal for getting hold of the larger hooks that are used on lures.

The "hookout" tool is another option for getting hooks out when lure fishing.
